What is AdBlue?

With AdBlue, the additive needed for new trucks, the emission standards in accordance with Euro 4 and 5 are reached. In addition, a saving of fuel is realised. The legal maximum emission of nitrogen oxide and solid particles like soot is set by the Euro standards. Since 2001 Euro 3,  and Euro 4 and Euro 5 respectively apply from 2006 and 2009. 

In order to satisfy these stricter requirements most European Truck & Bus manufacturers have jointly opted for SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction). The principle of SCR, also called the DeNOx system, is fairly simple. An ammonia-containing liquid is injected into the exhaust. The injected urea solution AdBlue causes, together with the high temperature and the integrated catalyst, a chemical analysis (‘dissection’) of the exhaust gasses reducing the NOx emission by about 70%.
